When Jesus says,“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled,” it carries much more weight in the Greek language. These words indicate “a passionate longing for something without which one cannot live.” A starving person has a single, all consuming passion for food and water. Nothing else has the slightest attraction or appeal! Oh to God that we would have that passion for
knowing Jesus more. The chorus says “we are hungry, we are hungry, we are hungry for more of You.” But are we really? We must be careful not to fill ourselves with things of this world and maintain a hunger to be filled with the Holy Spirit of God. We must ask ourselves, “How hungry am I for the things of God?”
