The Gener al Board of Global Ministries (GBGM) connects the church in mission. This is accomplished by sending missionaries, including young adults, from everywhere and to everywhere; collaborating and engaging with volunteers; evangelizing and church planting through mission initiatives; addressing diseases of poverty and global health; and responding to natural and civil disasters.

Church

CARE Ministry Team

Visits, cards and calls to homebound members, residents of nursing homes and persons with a need for encouragement and support are cared for by this group of loving and committed Christians. Church services at local nursing homes are led regularly by Pastor Terry.

Emergency Response Team

FUMC is a designated Red Cross shelter for persons displaced by storms. Be a part of the team standing ready to serve.

MWCDC (Methodist Weekday Child Development Center) (CDC) – Read a book or tell a story to the pre-school children.

Card Group – Give used greeting cards a second life. Sales of “new” cards benefit mission projects.

Inspired by the example of Jesus and empowered by God’s love for us, we all carry out our ministry, both individually and together with others.

United Methodist Women and United Methodist Men at FUMC also participate actively in local, national and international missions projects.

Community

The United Methodist Men have partnered with the Texas Ramp Project to make local homes more accessible to their residents.

Habitat for Humanity - Building affordable housing for low income families in Washington County.

Epiphany Prison Ministry – Program modeled after Emmaus for youth incarcerated at Giddings State School.

Hospice Brenham – Volunteers visit patients, provide caregiver respite, run errands, work in the office, provide house repairs for patients, etc.

Trinity Hospital Volunteers – The 55 active Volunteers work in many different areas of the hospital from patient care areas to the business office. They manage the Information Desk and the Gift Shop.

Mission Brenham and JAM– Share the word of God with at risk kids and youth in Washington County.

Nursing Home Visitors – Plan birthday parties for residents and help with crafts.

Citizens on Patrol – Work with local police and neighborhood groups to ensure safer neighborhoods.

Angel Tree – Purchase and deliver Christmas gifts for children of incarcerated parents.

Brenham State School -- Volunteers make monthly visits, make pillows, blankets, help with clerical duties, lead small groups and provide special music for worship.

Boys and Girls Club – Volunteers help at special events, assist students with homework after school, arts and crafts, and coaching sports.

Bread Partners – Deliver food to persons needing assistance in rural areas of Washington County.

CASA for Kids(Court-appointed special advocates) – Work with children in foster care (Washingting, Austin, Waller Counties).

Faith Mission/Higgins Branch Resale Shop Outlet store for donated items to support families in crisis. Volunteers help to sort and display donations.

HOSTS (Helping One Student to Succeed) – Volunteers help struggling readers in elementary schools for 30 minutes per week.

SMART (Science, Math, Art and Reading Team). This after-school tutoring program is a joint venture of BISD and Faith Mission.

Beyond our Community

Golden Cross – Program of the Texas Annual Conference assists patients with medical costs.

Methodist Children’s Home – Waco.

UMCOR, Sager Brown – Baldwin, LA. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) continues to respond to the rash of tropical storms and hurricanes. Volunteers donate, sort and pack relief supplies.

Big House – Junior High School youth in mission work on general church and home repair in the Texas conference.

United Methodist Army – High School youth in mission provide home repair and other community

service.

United Methodists join with other United Methodists, local churches, conferences and partners to accomplish far more than can be done by an individual or a single congregation. Texas Conference Partners in Mission offers many ways for individuals and local churches to be in mission near and far. Called by God through Jesus Christ, Partners-in-Mission (PIM) of the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church is committed to mission by proclaiming , serving and witnessing in love the Gospel of Jesus Christ through hands-on mission work projects to persons in need throughout the world. PIM believes that Christians are truly called to missions by God through Jesus Christ. Volunteers serve all people in all places whatever the circumstances or need. Whether we are a few blocks from home or in another country, PIM seeks to radiate the love of Jesus Christ and serve him with gladness. We do not go just to complete a project, but we go to joyfully serve Christ and express Christ's love by all that we do while on the mission.
